Luke Cornelius confirms that police drones will be deployed to crackdown AFL Grand Final Weekend gatherings

Victorians were warned that any gatherings at the AFL Grand Final that violate coronavirus guidelines will be subject to a crackdown.
Luke Cornelius, Assistant Commissioner of Victoria Police, held a news conference on Thursday and confirmed that police will use drones to monitor crowds and behavior.
He said that residents can celebrate the AFL Grand Final in their own backyards, without having to worry about a police helicopter hovering above.
He said that “our drones will not be hovering above people’s backyard pizza ovens.”
It’s absurd to say that we don’t have enough drones in Victoria to police six millions people.
It is feared that Richmond and Geelong supporters will ignore health guidelines regarding crowd size on Saturday night, especially after the final siren.
Richmond’s Swan St. was the focal point of Richmond celebrations following the premierships in 2017 and 2019.
“Swan St. is closed, of course.” “We have people rostered on to respond and will be a visible presence at public gatherings,” Cornelius stated.
He also added that police would be alerted to any illegal gatherings at homes.
Cornelius stated that health authorities advised that the risk of infection amongst people who are having a home party is 20 times higher than in any other setting.
On Friday, police will be on hand at the Shrine of Remembrance to make sure that people follow the CHO instructions at a planned demonstration. Read more about these remote controlled units here.
