L-plater charged after man killed on Melbourne footpath

A 16-year old boy was charged after a car mounted the footpath of Melbourne in the north-west and hit and killed a pedestrian.

The learner was driving alone when his car mounted the kerb on Taylors Road, Keilor Downs at about 5.40am Tuesday and hit a pedestrian on the footpath.

The 29-year old Kealba died on the spot.

The teenager was transported to Royal Melbourne Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The police have interviewed him and he was charged last night with dangerous driving that caused death and unaccompanied learner driver.

He was in custody over night and will appear before a court for children today.

A court was told that the teen could face more serious charges pending results of a drug test.

The pedestrian is believed to have been on his way towards Hungry Jacks located just 170m from the scene of the accident.
